Heartwarming Tearjerker of the Day: Meet Corky, the kitten who couldn’t walk: The seven-month-old was born with a congenital deformity known as bilateral arthrogryposis, which meant his hind legs faced the wrong way and overlapped.
A little boy found Corky dragging himself along a pavement in Fargo, North Dakota, and took him to a shelter, where he was promptly scheduled to be euthanized. Miracuously, Corky’s story made its way to veterinarian Dr. Dan Burchill, who invented a surgery to reposition Corky’s legs.
Corky is still in bandages following the four-hour procedure, but he’s using his legs like a normal kitty and is making progress with intensive physical therapy sessions, hydrotherapy, pain management, and acupuncture. He’s expected to make a full recovery within six months.
